Mind the Gap Changelog

Release notes for Mind the Gap, newest first.

Latest release
1.6.0 — July 25, 2026

[1.6.0] - 2026-07-25

Added

  • Connect Google Calendar and Outlook (Microsoft) accounts for native calendar sync
  • Reminder conditions for synced calendars: skip automatic reminders for all-day events, events without invitees, events without a location, or events marked as free (“Show as: Free”) — configurable globally and per calendar
  • Video calls can get their own reminder timing (or none).
  • New option so that events with a reminder set in the source calendar use that time
  • Reminder changes on a recurring synced event apply to the whole series by default. Uncheck “Apply to all events in series” in the reminder menu to change just that occurrence, and re-check it to return to the series rule.
  • Synced events with no reminder (skipped by your reminder conditions, or turned off before firing) are now hidden from the event list by default — show them via the ellipsis menu, General settings, or a bindable keyboard shortcut. Events you created in Mind the Gap always show
  • Licensing is now enabled: register a license key from Settings; unlicensed copies show an occasional reminder banner

Changed

  • All-day reminders are now configured with the “Ignore all-day events” condition (uncheck to add reminders), replacing the separate “Add reminders for all-day events” checkbox
  • The ellipsis menu’s “Show All-Day Events” modes (Always / Only when reminded / Never) are replaced by the single “Show Events Without Reminders” toggle, and the three matching keyboard shortcuts by one toggle shortcut (previous bindings for them are cleared)
  • Turning a reminder off before it fires now removes it entirely (hiding the event by default, per the new toggle); dismissing a reminder after it fires keeps the event visible under Now and Past
  • Snooze and reminder-timing presets are now listed soonest-first everywhere
  • The preset editor in Settings no longer supports drag-to-reorder. Lists sort themselves when the page opens, and a Sort button handles mid-edit cleanup — nothing reorders while you type
  • Dismissed reminders keep up with reschedules: when a synced event whose reminder already fired and was dismissed is moved to a later, future time (e.g. a missed 1:1 pushed later in the day), the reminder is re-armed under the normal rules for newly synced events

Fixed

  • Opening Settings from inside the app (the license banner’s Register button, the “connect a calendar” link, or the Ctrl+, / Cmd+, shortcut) no longer hangs the app on Windows the first time the Settings window is created
  • Outlook/Exchange ICS feeds that use Windows time zone names (e.g. “Eastern Standard Time”) now resolve to the correct event times
  • The notification window’s event details panel can no longer stretch wide and squish the countdown panel (previously possible on Windows with long event details)

[1.5.3] - 2026-06-24

Added

  • The Help menu now includes a “Documentation” link and a “Keyboard Shortcuts” item that opens the shortcuts settings directly.
  • Exported diagnostic logs now include a metadata file summarizing your app version, operating system, and other environment details to speed up bug reports.

Changed

  • The “Notify before” and “notify at” tabs are now both labeled as “notify in advance”.

Security

  • Exported diagnostic logs no longer include personal calendar contents (event titles, calendar names) or your account email and calendar feed URLs.

[1.5.2] - 2026-06-15

Added

  • The “No reminders yet” empty state now includes a link to connect a calendar, opening the Calendars settings tab directly.

Fixed

  • The control window now shows its empty state instead of a blank pane when a connected calendar has no events in the next 24 hours.
  • The Calendars settings no longer scroll back to the top when you remove an ICS calendar or disconnect an account.

[1.5.1] - 2026-06-12

Fixed

  • The menu-bar countdown now only tracks events within the next 24 hours, rather than potentially counting down to an event days away.
  • Calendars with recurring events no longer make the app slow to start up.
  • Fixed an issue where ICS events scheduled more than 30 days after initial calendar sync get missed.

[1.5.0] - 2026-06-12

Added

  • Snooze and quick-timer presets now support second-level granularity (e.g. a 30-second snooze), matching reminder-timing presets. The custom snooze picker also accepts sub-minute durations

Changed

  • Default snooze and reminder-timing presets are now 1 hr / 30 min / 10 min / 5 min / 1 min / 30 sec
  • The notification window’s “Notify at” options are now ordered by fire time, earliest to latest — the longest lead (e.g. “1 hr before”) comes first and “Start” comes last

Fixed

  • The new-reminder form no longer flashes back to blank defaults while the modal closes after saving (or cancelling) — the reset now waits for the next open

[1.4.0] - 2026-06-10

Added

  • Optional Dock icon on macOS (off by default, in General preferences) — clicking it opens the control window

Changed

  • Past events in the control window are now listed newest first
  • Clearer notification window wording: the “Notify before” toggle is now “Notify at”, and snooze buttons now read “for 5 min” with the target time

Fixed

  • The notification window’s reminder presets now always include a “Start” option to fire the reminder exactly at event start
  • Modal headers no longer get squished when a modal’s content grows to its maximum height

[1.3.1] - 2026-06-03

Fixed

  • Reminders no longer fire late after the computer has been asleep. They now fire as soon as the machine wakes, instead of being delayed by the amount of time spent sleeping.

[1.3.0] - 2026-06-02

Added

  • Screen readers now announce “Reminder added” when a reminder is created
  • Windows installer warns when run on an unsupported version of Windows (older than Windows 10, version 1809)
  • Log files now rotate to keep them from growing without bound

Changed

  • Documented minimum system requirements: macOS 14 (Sonoma) and Windows 10, version 1809 (64-bit)
  • Improved contrast calculations (now using OKLCH) for more legible text on colored backgrounds

Fixed

  • Pressing Escape with a modal open now closes the modal instead of hiding the control window
  • The new reminder modal no longer reopens to a stale time after a long gap. The form resets once its remembered time has lapsed.

[1.2.0] - 2026-05-17

Added

  • Windows and Linux now enforce a single running instance — launching the app again surfaces the existing window instead of starting a second copy
  • Relaunching the app on macOS or Windows now opens the control window near the tray icon, as a fallback for finding a hidden icon
  • One-time dismissible banner on Windows explaining that the app lives in the system tray (can be re-enabled from the debug menu)

Fixed

  • “Install and Restart” confirmation modal now matches the padding and corner radii of the other modals in the control window
  • “Install and Restart” now actually relaunches the app on macOS after the update is staged
  • Minor styling adjustments to modals
  • Control window now flips above the tray icon when there isn’t enough room below it
  • Control window stays on-screen when the tray icon is near a monitor edge
  • Control window corner radii are no longer clipped on Windows when positioned flush with the screen edge
  • Control window backdrop and CSS corner radii now line up on Windows 11 instead of showing a double-radius seam
  • Event row corner radii on macOS no longer round up past the window’s inner radius
  • Grid alignment in the new event time picker

[1.1.1] - 2026-05-15

Fixed

  • Fixed broken update mechanism. No re-download is required. Older versions of Mind the Gap that were unable to update to 1.1.0 should be able to update to this one.

[1.1.0] - 2026-05-15

Added

  • Snooze vs. offset action mode for the notification window, with an in-window toggle and a default selectable in Notification Preferences
  • Unified custom snooze and reminder offset into a single tabbed modal in the control window
  • Tray countdown settings: count down to the next reminder instead of event start, and/or ignore events without a reminder

Changed

  • Updated the release notes URL

Fixed

  • Adjusted misaligned modal, label, and checkbox/radios in settings
  • ICS feeds no longer duplicate recurring events that have been edited or removed from the recurrence
  • Location no longer wraps to the next line in notification window
  • Slider ticks are now reachable via keyboard tab, and arrow keys navigate backwards correctly
  • VoiceOver no longer reads “1m” as “1 meter” instead of “1 minute” in menus

[1.0.1] - 2026-05-12

Fixed

  • New reminder modal no longer carries over the previous reminder’s title after a successful submit

[1.0.0] - 2026-05-09

Added

  • Calendar (ICS) feed support with incremental sync and automatic deletion of removed events
  • Reminders for all-day events with separate timing settings
  • Per-calendar and per-event colors, with automatic palette assignment when a feed provides none
  • Appearance settings: accent color, color picker, and theming for notification windows, modals, and primary buttons by event color
  • Auto-linkified URLs in calendar event descriptions
  • Custom reminder timing presets
  • 24-hour time format support
  • “Start at login” option
  • EULA window and licensing system
  • About menu
  • Keyboard navigation: focus rings on control window buttons, tab-focusable calendar color swatches, left/right arrow navigation within calendar list rows
  • Cmd+click on events to open link to calendar events
  • Clicking on links auto-closes the notification window
  • Windows release and code-signing scripts

Changed

  • Larger corner radii throughout the UI
  • Cleaner control window banner styling
  • Visual refresh of the calendar list

Removed

  • Urgent/soon color coding (superseded by custom colors)

[0.1.0] - 2026-04-24

Added

  • Initial release
  • Manually add events and trigger windowed notificiations
